American Black Walnut

Heartwood is chocolate brown which can show a very slight purple tint at times. Sapwood is a complete contrast, creamy white in colour that may be hard to see on rough sawn boards. Known to be steamed at source to try and blend the two together. Can be rather knotty and is the reason behind the Super Prime Grade (this doesn’t deal with sap content). An absolutely stunning timber due to the colour and grain. Used in high class internal joinery and flooring. Glues, stains, and finishes well (though walnut is rarely stained).
